What is cheeseburger pie?

This pie consists of ground beef, cheese, seasonings, flour or Bisquick mix and other ingredients. There’s no rolling or shaping the pie crust as many cheeseburger pie recipes combine the dry ingredients into a batter so it becomes a fluffy, cobbler-like topping. It will definitely be a favorite in your household thanks to the comforting flavors and ease of preparation!

3 tips for making a tasty cheeseburger pie

If it’s your first time making cheeseburger pie, you’ll want to keep a few things in mind to guarantee yummy results. Here are three tips for creating your best-ever cheeseburger pie.

1. Use lean ground beef instead of fattier cuts

This is one of the few occasions where lean ground beef wins over 80/20 or 85/15. The reason: Lean ground beef renders less fat, which makes your pie less greasy. Though, you can decide if you want to drain any fat from the meat once it’s cooked.

2. Don’t overmix the batter for topping

Since the pie topping is made using a batter, it’s important to stir it until it just comes together. Otherwise, overmixing will cause gluten to form in the mixture–resulting in a topping that’s tough and chewy rather than light and fluffy.

3. Opt for classic condiments when serving the pie

Really lean into the cheeseburger aspect of this pie by serving it with your favorite condiments like pickles, ketchup and/or burger sauce. Even shredded iceberg lettuce, sliced tomato or onion are great to enjoy with the baked pie.
