There’s a reason this time of year is dubbed “the most wonderful.” Not only is it peak cozy season, it’s the time you might start taking stock of which renovations to finally cross off your to-do list next year. The 2025 Houzz Design Trend Report seems to say coziness is going to be “in” in a big way—think: earth tones, wood architectural elements, and English kitchens—even in unexpected rooms of the house like the bathroom

There, it’s increasingly popular to create a room within a room by including a shower room or wet room, which makes for easier cleaning and prevents moisture creep with sealed-in designs that contain either a spalike standing shower or a stand-alone shower and bathtub. Amber Lewis and Gwyneth Paltrow are just a couple of fans of the room-within-a-room setup, which also happens to create a cozy little self-care refuge right at home. Here are a few swoon-worthy examples to add to your mood board.

Tile continues up the ceiling and above the freestanding tub to create an extra-cozy feel here, in a lighter color that prevents the gabled roof from appearing too closed in.

Wet rooms can be intimate, but this one in South Carolina provides a lesson in making the most of serious square footage with a double showerhead, a bench roomy enough for two, and a supertall vaulted ceiling.
